Alex Flett: St.Martin’s revisited. “The Snail”

The Snail was originally conceived and built at St Martins School of Art in London (now Central/St. Martins) when the artist was a student there. That work was accidentally destroyed, and it was not until now that a new version was built. The idea was inspired by seeing the work of Nuam Gabo and L’Escargot by Matisse in the Tate Gallery. Now, the concept is to be expanded into a much larger outside public work comprising of Perspex, solar panels, LED’s and mirrors meaning that on any given day the work will sparkle, and at night illuminate itself.
